  • cold weather readiness

"You're more likely to die from a toaster accident than a shark" was a quote from a shark expert, on a bit done about the alarming number of shark sightings off the east and west coast (on World News with Dianne Sawyer via Hulu.com).  I had to laugh, because it wasn't but a couple hours before that that I used my toaster to check my outdoor outlet...whatevah.

up by 9am, burnt some coffee, barefoot pooperdog walk (with a hooded sweatshirt, it being only in the 50's today).  the cooler weather reminds me that I should heat tape and insulate my water main under the trailer.  I tore off all the old earlier this year when I redid the plumbing to it.  the little light wasn't even working on the old heat tape.  it's prob'ly been a good couple years since I did it last (these $26 heat tapes only lasts a couple years anyway), so I bought a new one and some insulation, along with some pumpkin ale and got down and dirty widdit.  it's not a pleasant job, underneath the wood-panel submarine, with all the spiders, old wet insulation, etc., but it's better than working on a burst water pipe when it's 20 below outshy.

on the way to doing this, I step in the biggest pile of Rosie doo ever.  I bang off most,  then throw my sandals in the washer (do sandals wash? I prob'ly will kill the velcro, but hey,  they were free).

oh yeah, I forgot to post a pic of my new toy (toy....? how about $800 shovel). it's currently cable locked to my porch post, to deter would-be criminals (I suppose they could take both it and the porch if they want it bad enough, or just unscrew the snow blowers handle...whatevah), then covered with a tarp to try and keep it out of the elements

this ought to make winter more bearable, now I need to get a good pair of mittens, and boots, then I should be all setpleased
